Our Little Kiwi Miracle

After nine months of waiting and preparing Lucas Malcolm Matter is finally here. He came into the world on Saturday March 8th at 6:16am. He weighed 3.1kgs. What an amazing little guy. Hard to believe he is all ours. We left the hospital on Saturday evening for birth care where we spent 3 days learning how to feed and take care of Lucas and some time for Mom to recover. We came home on Tuesday March 11th. It was a hectic day of getting used to our new surroundings and for Mommy and Daddy to get organized. But Lucas did a good job of letting us get a little bit of sleep that night. Since then we have been working hard to figure out feeding, changing, burping and all the other exciting things that go with having a newborn. Lucas has brought a lot of enjoyment into our lives already and we are sure there is more to come.

Peter has been amazing. He took a week off work and ended up just as tired as I was at the end of each day having done all the cooking (including fully cooked breakfasts - with bacon), washing, cleaning, changing and burping of the little guy so that I could get rest. He treated me like a queen.

He has since gone back to work but still makes sure that he has taken care of us first. He makes sure that I have healthy snacks ready to grab from the fridge and an easy lunch and breakfast prepared for me before he leaves. He rushes home from work every night to spend some quality time with Lucas before he goes off to sleep. Peter is Lucas's swimming teacher - each night before bed Peter makes sure Lucas has his bath and teaches him some new swimming kicks while enjoying some good music lessons as well. The first night Lucas was introduced to the beatles - a good choice.

It has been hard being away from home during this time. We have amazing friends here in New Zealand who have cooked us meals and dropped off snacks for us. Everyone is so excited to get to know the little guy. And we are proud to show him off.

Things have really changed in our Kiwi world - it is the long Easter weekend and we are not going tramping - instead we are planning a nice walk along the water front and some family time, maybe even another trip to the mall. Lucas is still a good sleeper at night (just like his mom) He gets up, eats and goes right back to sleep, but loves to be up and around for all the action during the day (just like his dad). I am really looking forward to the extra pair of hands to walk around bouncing Lucas all day.

I really am very lucky an feel so blessed to have 2 such wonderful men in my life.
