Yesterday was a shocking day in the Matter household. Lucas was up what seemed like ALL night on Monday night. So I was tired on Tuesday and so was he. That didn't make him sleep though. He was so grumpy for the entire day, barely smiled or coo'd all day. Finally went to bed last night at about 7:30 which is late for him and he had another not so good sleeping night last night, up twice and took an hour to go back to sleep at one stage. I think he is in a better mood this morning though, we had some giggles and smiles already so things are looking up. I hope!
I tell ya if ever there was a day that I wished I lived next door to my parents yesterday was it. Knowing my Mom is off on school holidays and I was here dealing with MR. Grumpy pants on my own was frustrating to say the least. I guess that is one of the downfalls of living on the other side of the world to family. Only 2 weeks and they will be here to lend a hand - I can't wait!!! I think Lucas is excited too maybe that is why he isn't sleeping. Or as Pat said he is missing his Aunt Elissa and Uncle Sean who are also in Canada right now enjoying the sunshine and hot weather.
Speaking of weather. The sun has made an appearance again yesterday and today looks like two days in a row without rain. It has been really cold though. Heating in the house is a novelty that New Zealand doesn't think they need so when I woke up this morning and could see my breath I turned on our heater. Lucas still nice and toasty in his room though - can't wait to see our power bill for June it is going to be a bit high. I am sitting in the living room typing the blog with the curtains open to le the sun in and the heater on. Still there is a draft running through the room, I think it comes down the chimney. So I have a blanket over my legs to keep my knees from getting too cold - I feel like my Nana.
That is enough complaining for one day I think. Good news we have passed the shortest day of the year and things are only going to get better from here, longer days, less rain and more sunshine as we starting heading towards summer. I know that makes none of you in Canada feel good as it is the opposite for you but I have to take the pleasure in small things some days.
We went to see a pediatrician on Monday about Lucas and he is all good - no worries about the poo and his head shape is nothing to worry about the doctor figures it will come right once he is up and moving around, it is already better than it was. He was weighed and measured while we were there which is always fun - feels like I have accomplished something if he puts on weight. He is just a little guy -below the 25th percentile. Not yet weighing 6 kilos, 5.54 kilos (I think) was his weight and 59 cm (if I remember correctly). It means that he doesn't grow out of his clothes as fast as other babies and that he isn't as heavy to carry around on days like yesterday when that was all he wanted me to do. The doctor looked at Peter and I and said that Lucas will probably end up being an average of the two of us - Peter being in the 95th percentile for height and me being in the 10th percentile, so Lucas should be much taller than me but probably not quite as tall as his Dad. Sorry Lucas I am bringing you down - Oakley genes keeping you short in case you want to work in the mines one day!
So even though he was grumpy I still managed to take photos - the day would not be complete around here without at least one new photo - poor kid must think the poperotsey or pumperotsey is following him around all the time.
The cute little feet belong to Lucas
Some bath time fun to calm him down, works like a charm and the room is like a sauna so it is nice to be in there for Mom and Dad as well.
Even the baby in the mirror was grumpy yesterday
Having a break on the couch, can't seem to figure this toy out and it makes noise and on days when he hasn't had much sleep it startles him and makes him cry - not very nice of me to give it to him to play with yesterday, I blame lack of sleep.
